Active Learning Strategy: The One Minute Paper
Each month, PDWS will highlight a specific strategy for faculty and staff to implement in the workplace. The strategy may be useful in the utilization of multimedia software to create dynamic course content, to deliver instructions and tutorials for students, or to provide directions on policies and procedures; or may consist of suggestions for better communication with colleagues and students.
Adjunct instructor, Beth Kerly demonstrates an active learning strategy called The One Minute Paper. This strategy which can be implemented quickly, helps instructors ascertain what students have learned during class. Angelo and Cross advocate the use of classroom assessment techniques (CAT) such as the One Minute Paper to provide feedback on how effective the instruction is in helping students learn important concepts.
