I created the blog http://stayinginschool.blogspot.com as an open discussion board for the course Introduction to sociology. The blog's anonymity encourages timid students to express opinions by using a nick name. A stat-counter shows 2000 unique visits so far from all over the world and knowledge of this international exposure increases the students' desire for meaningful participation. The cost is zero as blogs and stat counters are free services. Blogs can be replicated easily by anyone. As far as I know it is the first or among the first of its kind at HCC and it started operating in August 2007.
